A, B, C’s of Hiring a Coach

What do you need to consider when hiring a coach? ?

What am I hoping to change?

How might a coach support my development?

What are some important considerations when hiring a coach?

These are important questions to ask if you’ve ever thought about hiring a coach.  There are many people who attach the word coach to their profession; from people who sell supplements to people who are consultants and offer great advise.  The term “Coach" is unregulated which leads to confusion for consumers, like you.

I’d like to help you understand some basic and important points of hiring a professional coach.

If you are looking for someone who is trained to help you to:

      • achieve what you want

      • build more productive relationships

      • see yourself or others more clearly

      • learn new ways of responding

      • leverage your strengths

Then, a professional coach is a great partner to get you where you want to go, and a faster than you would without their expertise.

Here are the ABC’s for you to take into your coach search:

A- ASK yourself what you are hoping to ACCOMPLISH. What are your desired outcomes? When you are interviewing a potential candidate,

B- BEST FIT Be aware of what works for you. Most coaches will offer you a “Chemistry Conversation”. A good fit is about feeling like you can trust the person you are vetting, as well as feeling like they will challenge you.

C- CREDIBILITY is important! Is your potential coach certified with with the International Coaching Federation? This is the governing body for professional coaches. There are requirements that have to be met in order to be credentialed as an ICF accredited coach. Ask your potential coach about their education and experience. Where did your potential coach take their education and are credentialed with the International Coaching Federation (ICF).  Find out more here: https://coachingfederation.org/find-a-coach/hiring-tips Sharing your goals and growth with a professional that is accredited with a governing body is important for your protection.
